Spanish cheese manufacturing has expanded from a cottage-craft to a large commercial enterprise servicing export as well as domestic markets. Along with adjoining Cantabria, Asturias provides most of Spain's dairy produce and you will find a mouth-watering range of pungent cheeses, including the intense blue Cabrales.

Many of Spain's best cow's milk cheeses come from Asturias, where the milk is exceptionally rich and creamy. Some of the more exclusive cheeses can only be obtained at their point of origin, often a tiny village high in the mountains where the business of cheese making has been carried on by one family for generations. Spanish cheeses include more than 20 artisan Iberian cheeses. They are tasty and delicious and the best selections speak for themselves. The cheeses of the Canary Islands have generally received good international reviews, noted for their sweetness, which differentiates them from certain other European cheeses. In particular, Tenerife cured goats cheese was awarded best cheese in the world final of the 2008 World Cheese Awards.
